KALABAAZ

PENDANT LAMP

This pendant lighting piece takes inspiration from the spellbinding performances of trapeze artists.

Their acts seem magical when artists perform the fast movements perfectly balancing their bodies. Thus it is aptly named "KALABAAZ ", which in Hindi means an acrobat.

Finalist of L A M P Design Competition 2018

It captures the fluid motion and freezes it. The luminaire thus creates an illusion of light performing acrobatics

BALANCE    +     MOTION

Balance, in general, signifies a situation that gives equal weightage to all factors involved. Asymmetrical balance creates tension through contrast and is much more visually interesting. This type of balance is more free and energetic. It is not necessary for a body to be stationary to be balanced, it can be in motion too. The trapeze lamp is based on both these facets of balance.

The asymmetry is displayed through the body postures of trapeze artists. This type of balance is more free and energetic. It is not necessary for a body to be stationary to be balanced, it can be in motion too. The trapeze lamp is based on both these facets of balance.

MATERIALS

A 24V LED strip is fixed inside a 38" wide bent aluminum C channel. This aluminum channel was powder coated. The sandblasted glass shows the three stages of seamless trapeze performance from left to right. A powder-coated aluminum tube supports the entire arc at one end accentuating the asymmetrical balance.
